CASHIERS VALLEY

The driving force behind this project was the homeowner’s desire to simplify. This modest 950 sq ft contemporary house is sited on a gently sloped and wooded lot at the edge of the city of Brevard, NC. It boasts two bedrooms and two baths, a large screened porch, and an elevated deck. The single story wood framed structure rests on a concrete slab with radiant floor heat and metal siding on the exterior. The house was carefully positioned on the lot to minimize the impact to the existing environment, enable solar gain for passive solar energy, and to offer optimal views of the surrounding landscape. The single-pitch roof combined with an efficient open floor plan provide, in spite of the small building footprint, a generous interior space. Large window openings in all areas connect with the natural environment. The passive solar design, tight building envelope, and low maintenance finishes make it ideal for a long-lasting, sustainable, simplified home.
